NOTES 1/25/08

some wikispaces have an automatic email to notify you, as organizer, that a change has been made on the page.
can track all changes in history' tab
need to have clicked on 'edit page' tab to write here.
benefit of wiki space for new research doc: more efficient than emaik group - quicker, everyone can see the changes, when they are made, see email not goofd at coordinating changes and history of changes; edit and save and all can see
EDIT-WRITE-SAVE
great you-tube video about efficiency of wiki v. email. the commoncraft wikis in plain english on our wiki home page and this page (ckick on wikis on left side menu here)
examples of library wikis:
wikipedia;
what you see, is what you get - very current
used now for sharing information as much as being used for editing work. like quick news was used during hurricane katrina, for ex., to post open roads and missing people
to link to your wiki page
http://teacherlibrarianwiki.pbwiki.com/ = joyce valenza's page

beth's notes

waltham high wiki space link is under wikis on left side menu

student permission to use a wiki is implicit in the acceptale use policy, esp. at high school. this is really a practice that should be done according to the frameworks.
certainly will be used in college. do need to set rules for use, for ex., no i.m. language, no insults, try to be positive, use good grammar, etc.
some things are open to only the organizer, us, to use. for ex., on a book review page, teacher would put in picture of book, include link to reviews, the discussion is open to all contributers.

what's a
blog** and how is it different from a wiki?
a wiki can do anything a blog can do, but a blog can't do anything a wiki can
owner controls blog use
not all blogs have interaction
blog is sequential, chronological posts by author
blog can't be edited and changed like a wiki
wiki good for interactive projects
blog better for comments, not interactive, or to post continuing thoughts like a diary
blog has rrs feed - rapid read service -

bloglines and google reder are the same thing - readers and feeders for the blogs you want to ead new posts come to you new way to read the web.
